hCG - Pharmaceutical Grade Vs. Homeopathic

By Alina Karemin

Losing weight and leading a healthier lifestyle has now become part and parcel of today's society. New methods of weight loss are popping up every day and only a few of them have been tried and tested. One such treatment is the use of hCG to lose weight. Two types of hCG, a pharmaceutical grade form and a homeopathic form, are generally available on the market.

However, which is preferable and comes with recommendations? We will examine this here.

Pharmaceutical grade hCG

Available only through prescription by a doctor is the pharmaceutical grade human chorionic gonadotropin. It is reassuring to know that rigorous testing of pharmaceutical grade hCG in clinical trials, to ensure its efficacy, would have been done to make it available as a drug in the pharmacy. It is available in particular concentrations as recommended by Dr ATW Simeons. The founder of the hCG diet, Dr Simeons, says that the hCG product must contain at least 125 IU of hCG for effective weight loss. Anything below that will be ineffective and can be pretty much useless.

Homeopathic hCG

The use of homeopathic hCG has been fairly controversial. The contents of the drop form that is available, were shown in a breakdown to contain water, vitamins, alcohol and only trace amounts of hCG, if any at all. Given that there is a minimum requirement of hCG in order to lose weight effectively through the hCG diet protocol, one cannot be sure how much hCG they are receiving through these drops.

Discussions have been held on a number of Internet forums about the usefulness of homeopathic hCG. In general, opinion says it does not help with weight loss, although there are some who say it has helped them. It is probable that they have been helped more by a placebo effect and that the weight loss actually results from exercise and diet.

Purchasing advice

If you are keen to start the hCG diet, it is essential that you see a doctor first ensure that is the right step for you. 'hCG drops' purchased on the Internet are likely to be homeopathic medication that may be completely useless, so this is not recommended. A physician prescribed pharmaceutical grade hCG assures you that you are receiving the right amount of hCG as recommended by Dr Simeons to be the effective dose to lose weight.

Conclusion

There are significant and important differences between pharmaceutical grade and homeopathic hCG. From the available evidence, pharmaceutical grade hCG is clearly superior to homeopathic hCG.
