By Michelle Howe

Dental diseases are most of the time difficult to identify. This is because; most people avoid regular dental checkup or even regular brushing of the teeth. To be informed about the periodontal pockets help to reinforce the essence of keeping ones teeth healthy to avoid an infection.

The teeth are usually surrounded by a cavity of one to two millimeter called the cavity sulks. This cavity can be maintained at the normal depth by a normal teeth brushing and flossing. Otherwise by the inflammation of several bacterial organisms the cavity may deepen forming periodontal pockets. These are formed when the depth deepens to a depth of above five millimeter.

Without regular teeth brushing, a colorless coat which consists of a mixture of mucus, food debris and bacteria develop on the teeth. This colorless plaque causes teeth irritation as a result of normal constant acting of the bacteria on the food substances causing toxic substances. Further development of the plaque into a permanent coat known as tartar affects the gums.At the same time, the quality and standard of teeth is adversely affected either and this may be linked to huge loss of money through diagnosis.

People should be educated on the teeth pocket because most signs and symptoms may not be noted easily until the late stages. Bleeding gums, teeth mobility or sensitive teeth to heat or cold are some of the late symptoms of periodontal pockets. At this moment consulting a dentist is the only option.

Periodontal pockets exist in several stages. Gingivitis is the initial stage of the infection. It is usually associated with causing the gums to swell and turn bluish red in color. Untreated gingivitis will lead the second stage which is known as periodontist. During this stage the cavity further deepens as a result of the food particle being located in the depth where brushes cannot reach. This therefore leads to the bacteria forming more poisonous substances that inflate the gums further widening the distance between the teeth and the gums.

Antibiotic may be administered for treatment purposes. For example Chloe sit oral dent gel can be used in the treatment of periodontal pocket disease. It is directed to the bacteria in the holes using a special teeth needle. Patients can also use antiseptics that work in a similar way as the antibiotics by killing the bacteria.

Alternatively, during these adverse stages of the disease, surgical treatment may be offered. The dentist may administer surgery on the gums and this requires repeated procedures that can as well require regular checkups up to twenty times. This should as well be accompanied by maintenance procedures.

To be informed about the periodontal pockets as well assist one to avoid unhealthy behaviors. This may include smoking. Smoking increases the chances of one developing dental diseases and especially within the oral cavity. This can be very dangerous since the shelf life of teeth is reduced to nothing. This means more expenses in the hospital during treatment.
